Cruise Lines are Adjusting Vaccination Requirements: The Need to Know

Cruise lines have held off from dropping their vaccination requirements behind many countries and airlines - and with good reason. Being in close proximity to so many travelers for up to a week, increases the risk more on cruises than any other type of travel.

Now that cruises have updated their vaccination requirements, I want to ensure you know what's required so that you're best prepared and can begin planning your next cruise!

Keep reading for the updates released this week provided by some of the most popular cruise lines.

Virgin Voyages

  • We’re removing requirements for a COVID-19 test to board as of 7/24/22 (for Valiant Lady) and 7/27/22 (for Scarlet Lady) for vaccinated Sailors.

  • We still require the majority (90%) of Sailors to be vaccinated.

  • We’re opening up our voyages for a limited number (10%) of unvaccinated Sailors. Unvaccinated Sailors should call Sailor Services to book, or please email Sailor Services at help@virginvoyages.com with your Booking # to update your vaccination status.

  • Unvaccinated Sailors are required to bring a negative COVID-19 test taken within 24-hours, or at the terminal for a fee of $30 on their embarkation date.

  • Our Crew will remain fully vaccinated.

Carnival Cruises

Vaccinated guests must continue to provide evidence of their vaccination status prior to embarkation. Pre-cruise testing is no longer required, except for cruises to Canada, Bermuda, Greece and Australia (per local guidelines), and on voyages 16 nights or longer.

Unvaccinated guests are welcome to sail and are no longer required to apply for a vaccine exemption, except for cruises in Australia or on voyages 16 nights and longer.

• Unvaccinated guests or those who do not provide proof of vaccination must present the results of a negative PCR or antigen test taken within three days of embarkation

.• Guests under the age of five years are exempt from vaccination and testing requirements from the United States and under the age of 12 from Australia.

• All policies are subject to local destination regulations.

• Voyages 16 nights and longer will continue to have vaccination and testing requirements that are specific to the itinerary.

Royal Caribbean International

COVID-19 vaccination is not required for sailings departing from home ports in California, Louisiana, or Texas.

Royal Caribbean still strongly recommends that guests are fully vaccinated, if eligible, with the final dose administered at least 14 days before sailing.

For these sailings, documentation of vaccination is not required to board, but we will ask that you disclose your vaccination status prior to boarding (via the Royal Caribbean app, on our website, or at the terminal). We recommend you bring your vaccination documentation with you, as local authorities or businesses in some destinations may request to see it for entrance. Guests who are not fully vaccinated will need to bring a negative test result for any COVID-19 test taken within the 3 days before boarding day.

Princess Cruises

Starting Sept. 6, vaccinated guests sailing on voyages of less than 16 days with the exception of Panama Canal transits, trans-ocean and other special itineraries will no longer have to test before boarding and only need to upload proof of vaccination while getting OceanReady®. Unvaccinated guests, or those who do not provide proof of vaccination, on those itineraries will self-test within three days of sailing and upload proof of a negative test on the MedallionClass® app before boarding.

Guests sailing on voyages 16 nights or longer, or sailing on full Panama Canal transits, trans-ocean and other specific itineraries, need to take a supervised test within three days of embarkation (guests 5 and older).
